Pastoral Care

There are three Pastoral Principal Teachers in the school each responsible for a cohort of pupils. These staff provide support, help, advice and education on personal and social issues to pupils in their cohort.

There is an agreed pastoral entitlement for all pupils which is included here. In addition, each Principal Teacher has an area of specific responsibility. These areas are:-

•  The Personal and Social Education Programme;

•  Education for Work;

•  Quality Assurance;

•  The House System;

•  Work Experience;

•  The 6th Year Experience

Pastoral teachers are normally the first point of contact for parents and pupils.

Personal and Social Education

Personal & Social Education is taught in Register Classes by your Pastoral Care Teacher

It aims to help you

  • make the most of your self
  • cope with the challenges of being a teenager
  • get the best out of school life
  • enjoy your leisure time
  • develop good relationships with your friends and family
  • understand and respect other people
  • make decisions about your health, your personal safety, your future career
  • know what your strengths and achievements are
  • set achievable targets for yourself

The programme continues to expand pupils' knowledge and develop their skills and values to enable them to make informed decisions in a range of situations concerning Health, Relationships, Academic Progress and Career. Pupils are encouraged to take an active role in their learning. Methods include group and class discussion, role-play, case studies, questionnaires and quizzes.

The House System

House points boardThe school is divided into 3 Houses:

BOWMONT, KALE and TEVIOT

Pupils with the same Pastoral Care Teacher are placed in the same House.

All staff are placed in Houses and a member of the Senior Management Team is associated with a specific House, as are members of the School Chaplaincy Team.
