Thank you for offering to help with younger classes, groups or individuals. Your help is appreciated and we hope that you will find the experience rewarding. We also hope that you will find this advice helpful.

• Make sure that all the pupils know your name and try to establish a friendly relationship with the pupils.
• Sit down beside the pupil or pupils.
• Please pass any concerns you may have or information that is disclosed to you to a member of staff.
• Staff will try to be clear in the task or tasks that we would like you to do.
• If you are unsure about anything please ask for help.
• When working with pupils try to get them to think things through for themselves.
• If you are listening to reading try to get the pupil to guess or work out any words they don't know but don't wait too long before giving them the answer .
• Use reading time to ask questions about the book to check understanding.
• If you are acting as a reader for an assessment you must only read what is there. You are not allowed to rephrase or explain.
• If you are acting as a scribe for a pupil you must only write down the words they give you. They do not need to spell the words out for you.
• Please report any bad behaviour to a member of staff.  You should be treated with respect.
• If for any reason you can't make a class please let the teacher know if possible. This helps us to plan work.
